System Requirements
Weathervane is best viewed with the following browsers:
- Internet Explorer 4.X, 5.X, or 6.X
- Netscape 4.7 or 6.X (Windows and Macintosh)
To view the website effectively, your system should meet these minimum requirements:
- Minimum connectivity rate: 56K modem
- Monitor resolution and colors: 800x600, 256 colors
- Streaming media format: RealOne™ Player
Weathervane supports the RealOne Player streaming media format for audio and video files. If you do not currently have RealOne Player installed on your computer, download a free trial version by visiting www.real.com.
To view PDF versions of documents available on our site, you need Adobe® Acrobat® Reader®. If you do not have this software installed on your computer, download it for free by visiting the Adobe website.

Read and Download Documents
Many documents are available on Weathervane in portable document format (PDF), including Backgrounders, Discussion Papers, RFF Reports, Issue Briefs, Congressional Testimony, and RFF’s quarterly magazine Resources.
PDF files allow you to open and view, download, or print documents with their original formatting, colors, and graphics applied. To view PDF files, you need Adobe® Acrobat® Reader®. If you do not have this software installed on your computer, download it for free by visiting the Adobe website.
Once you have the software installed, click a document link to automatically launch Adobe Acrobat Reader and display a PDF version of the document.
Print Documents
Each Weathervane page has a printer-friendly link in the top right corner of the page. Click on this link to display a version of the page optimized for printing.
To print PDF files, use the Adobe Acrobat Reader toolbar or your browser’s toolbar. PDF versions of Weatehrvane and RFF.org research products and web content may be printed for individual use on an educational or informational basis only, as described in our Terms and Conditions.
Play Audio and Video
Audio or video for selected RFF events are available on Weathervane and/or RFF.org. If audio or video files are available, you will see a small media icon next to the title of the event. To listen to or view these files you need RealOne™ Player. If you do not have this software installed on your computer, download a free trial version by visiting www.real.com.
